Bernard Salt is a Partner with KPMG Australia based in Melbourne. Bernard's current business interests include the following areas of responsibility:
- Heads the firm's Property Advisory Services group which provides demographic and consumer trend advice to business.
- One of the leading and most respected speakers on the Australian corporate speaking circuit; in 2005 he completed 140 presentations
- Columnist for The Australian's weekly Primespace and monthly Wish magazines, as well as for other publications
- Author of best-selling book The Big Shift published in 2001, now in 3rd edition and also The Big Picture published in 2006
- Chairman of the Tourism Forecasting Committee reporting to the Tourism Australia board
- Member of the Expert Advisory Group on Critical Infrastructure Protection Futures, established by the Federal Attorney-General's Department
Bernard occasionally writes for The Age and the Business Review Weekly. He regularly appears on television programs such as Today Tonight, A Current Affair, Today Show, Sunrise, 60 Minutes, SBS Insight, Sunday, Business Sunday and others. He frequently contributes to radio programs and to newspaper and magazine articles in all Australian states and New Zealand.
Bernard describes himself as a failed history and geography school teacher. He holds Bachelor of Education and Master of Arts degrees. He is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He began his business career as a research officer at the Geelong Regional Commission (1983-1985) before moving into advisory with the boutique property consultancy RT Jebb & Associates (1985-1989). From there Bernard moved into management consultancy with Coopers & Lybrand Consultants (1989-1997), then to KPMG Consulting (1998-2001) and finally to KPMG Australia from 2001.
